Massimo and Mario Monticelli are both California natives and fourth generation winemakers. They have been pruning, picking and making wine at their Grandfather’s ranch since before they could speak. Their father has been making wine all over California for more than 40 years and is a wealth of knowledge to the brothers. They love the Napa and Sonoma Valley wine regions of California and have varied experiences making wonderful wines.
Massimo received degrees at UC Irvine in Chemistry and Biology. He then went to get his Masters in Enology & Viticulture at UC Davis with his brother. Massimo’s background making Cabernet for several premier Napa Valley wineries brings both a passion for the grape and a hands-on knowledge producing some of the most in-demand Cabernet made in the state. His love of Cabernet Sauvignon is evident in the wines that these brothers produce.
Mario graduated from UC Davis with degrees in Enology & Viticulture, and Italian. His early experience began working with Phillipe Melke on a number of the best boutique wines in California, including Vineyard 29, Constant, and Caldwell. He has a flare for making wines of classic Bordeaux sensibility, with an artisan feel.
